As a rule I don't plan out a bokken when I start it. I carve as a form of artistic expression. My inspiration is very much as Micheal Angelo, in so far as I see the finished product as in the wood already, all I need do is remove the excess on the outside. Truth be told, it's as much excuse as any thing else. Many times I've started it to be one thing...and then one slip and it needs to be something else. Honestly, more often then not a piece comes out the way I intend it, but since most times I'm carving one for the sales rack or for use in the Aikido class, not so much for a particular customer, I don't always feel the need to cut it to a particular spec. Besides, who wants to the same thing over and over. Heres a few recent ones.. I'll post some more later.
